And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do
that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his
statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the
Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.” Exodus 15:26
What is this saying? Is this implying that we serve a “tit for tat” God? No way! He is
simply sharing or warning, if you will, the fact that the Egyptians who did not obey Him,
the true and living God, lived and ate the way they chose, how they found themselves
with various diseases. While we, God’s people have His Word which clarifies all through
how we are to live and eat and therefore if we adhere to what He has provided and obey,
then we can live a healthy and prosperous life.
So what is He asking according to the text
above?
1. Listen to what He says. (His word)
2. Do what is right in His sight.
3. Give ear to His commandments.
4. Keep all of His statutes.
It is our choice. It is all laid out and simply, disobedience leads to negative consequences.
And if we end up sick, James 5:16 states that confession and prayer of one who is
“righteous” will bring hope. Be encouraged.
We serve a loving God. Not a punishing God but one that gives and shares what we need
before hand. It is up to us to listen and live.
